Co-creating Opportunities through Physical Literacy for All newcomer children and Youth
CO-PLAY Network
We’re building connections
Welcome to the Network
The CO-PLAY Network is a national initiative in Canada that aims to support the physical, social, and emotional wellbeing of newcomer children and youth. It brings together community leaders and researchers to create and connect regional hubs.
Canada is experiencing record levels of immigration, yet community supports for newcomer youth remain fragmented and under-resourced. Early interventions rooted in community connection and wellbeing can drastically improve life outcomes but require sustainable investment.
The need
The purpose
To foster physical, mental, and social wellbeing among newcomer children and youth through community-led, outcomes-focused programs that build resilience, belonging, and long term integration.
Why it matters
Physical & mental health: active, engaged youth are healthier and more resilient.
Social health: belonging and peer connection reduce risk and promote opportunity.
Economic return: early wellbeing reduces long-term public health and social costs.
CO-PLAY aims to be the missing piece that will connect newcomers to Canada with the resources they need to thrive in their new environment. By reimagining the ecosystem of settlement and participation in health and wellness initiatives, tailored solutions can be co-developed, adapted and implemented to achieve the best outcomes for newcomer youth to Canada.
Regional Hubs
The CO-PLAY hubs work to design, deliver, and evaluate programs that empower newcomer youth to lead healthy, active lives as they build their futures in Canada while also addressing systemic barriers to participation.
The CO-PLAY Network seeks to improve settlement experiences and long-term health outcomes for young newcomers across the country.
